NXP adds high-speed CAN transceivers

NXP Semiconductors has introduced two high-speed CAN (HS-CAN) transceivers, TJA1042 and TJA1051, for HS-CAN applications up to 1 Mbit/s. Improved ESD performance (±8kV according to IEC 61000-4-2) allows manufacturers to build electronic control units without having to incorporate external ESD protection.


The transceivers disengage from the bus when they are not powered on or are operating in a low power mode, resulting in current consumption as low as 10 mA typical for effective automotive power management with reduced CO2 emissions.


Predictable under-voltage behavior simplifies the design of systems that incorporate Start-Stop functionality, according to Toni Versluijs, NXP senior director and general manager CAN/LIN Transceivers. Both transceivers are RoHS-compliant and do not contain halogenated flame retardants (Dark Green).


“These new transceiver products from NXP enable our customers to introduce greener, safer and more reliable cars with reduced system costs,” Versluijs said.


The ISO 11898-2 compliant transceivers have been qualified to AEC Q-100.

Sion Power and BASF collaborate on Li-S battery technology

Sion Power Corporation and BASF SE are collaborating to accelerate the commercialization of Sion Power‘s proprietary lithium-sulfur (Li-S) battery technology for the electric vehicle (EV) market and other high-energy applications.


The collaboration is focusing on development of battery materials to improve Li-S battery life, increase the energy density, and thus extend the driving range of EVs beyond what is currently available with alternative rechargeable battery technologies.
